JOHANNESBURG 2

Day 11 – 21.03.2018

The last day of my time in South Africa had broken and I was really looking forward to today. I had booked myself into a spa day with loads of treatments for my sore body. Just to show you how calm this little oasis is in the middle of Johannesburg: (my view from breakfast).

After breakfast I headed off for the first treatments, facials, peelings, and a shoulder, neck and head massage. After that I had lunch. A healthy option of halloumi wrap with avocado, tomatoes and lettuce. It was really yummy and obviously what I needed after spending so much time eating around the fire with not that much greenery in my diet.

I was joined, or better said, taken hostage by these two beautiful creatures that were roaming around the premises freely and really added to the calm atmosphere!

After my final massage I was treated to tea and carrot cake muffin. Really delicious!

I then spent a lot of time waiting since my flight was not going to leave till later that evening. Unfortunately I had added the time incorrectly into my phone and so the time difference fooled me into thinking my flight was two hours earlier. Adding to that was the delay that had occured of nearly another two hours. We were told later on that there had been a technical defect the day before with the plane coming from London, and that had caused a delay and because the cabin crew need to have their official 12 hours of rest between two flights, our flight was moved pushed two hours later to accomodate that.

I spent some more time with internet access : ) at the retreat, with bags all packed and ready to go, and I decided that there was more for me to do at the airport than at the retreat and that I could check in my bags and explore freely after security.

I was sort of glad I arrived earlier, since the queues for just dropping off your bags were incredibly long. I think i nearly waited an hour and a half in line just to drop off my bags...

I made it through, and security was a breeze in comparison to dropping off my bags. So I had a lot of time to kill and decided to sit down somewhere, have dinner and just browse through the news and social media – what I had been missing out on during my trip.

Dinner was a halloumi greek style salad which was actually really good.

We then boarded the plane and off we went.

I was tired and must have slept tightly after watching one film and awoke for breakfast when we were just passing from Africa to Europe.

I landed, got back, through on the washing machine, showered and wrote some more of my blog. So to come full circle this story doesnt end here quite yet. When I was in Kruger Park I used the little Wifi I got to book tickets to see the Lion King Musical. It only seemed appropriate. The songs had haunted my all through the trip and I thought it would be a good idea to use this to revive my memories of the last week and a bit.

So I went and it was once again incredible. You appreciate the work they put into the costumes, the set and the songs a lot more if you come back from Africa and have just been to all the National Parks and met locals along the way. If you havent seen it – I can only recommend.

This trip was definitely an adventure and I am glad I went on it to see all these animals in „real life“ and not just through a screen or at a zoo. It hasnt one bit helped me with my wanderlust or more appropriately I think the German work Fernweh, instead it has urged me to go on more trips in Africa, especially Kenia, Uganda, Tanzania with the Gorillas and the Masai. So many adventures to be had, so little time...
