PUERTO MALDONADO - LIMA

Day 97 15.10.15

We woke up early to experience the sunrise first hand. I had enjoyed seeing the sunrise on the last day of my first group, so I thought it only reasonable to do so on one of the last days of my last group. We watched it rise from the wonderful place of our hammocks and I really managed to recharge some batteries.

We headed for breakfast and then were straight off back to motorized canoes to head back to Puerto Maldonado and with that back to Lima.

We stopped by the nature reserves office to check out of the park and headed onwards to Puerto Infierno, on the way spotting more capybaras and macaws.

From Puerto Maldonado we squeezed into the bus and headed back on the bumpy road to the office where we repacked our duffle bag contents into our large packs and headed off this time without a police convoy.

We headed and cued up to check in, had a small brawl with a fellow Gecko group, as they had come late to the airport and were pushing in in front of us. Not cool. You definitely haven’t witnessed our travel guide angry, cause she really was.

In the end we checked in nevertheless and all got onto the plane.

Off we were to Cusco since there is no direct flight to Lima. We could stay in our seats and then headed on another hour or so to Lima. We got there, managed to grab everyone’s bags and all our group and lead them to the bus waiting for us. Back to the hotel and then I decided to head out again to collect my skull. It was the skull that I had left in Lima to be fixed up – a souvenir I had taken with me from Mexico, which unfortunately broke during my flight from Panama to Quito. It is one of these lovely sugar skulls with beautiful floral engravings.

Unfortunately they couldn’t fix it at the shop I had left it and so I just recollected it hoping to find a place to repair it in Germany.

Back to the hotel I had a great shower and then it was already time for our farewell dinner!

We went back to Arcomar at the sea side in order to have a special Peruvian meal at a restaurant. We walked out there a couple of blocks and unfortunately found no space there, as you cannot make reservations here. Instead we walked over to the restaurant I had gone to my first night when I was in Lima, to Mangos.

It was just as delicious as the first night I had been, and I just ordered the same thing again because it had been such a revelation. Yum yum yum!

After enjoying the lovely view and a nice cocktail we headed back to the hotel, some stopping at a Churros place, others heading straight back to the hotel.

Here the first of us already separated heading off to the airport either to continue their travels or to head back home. I on the other hand had one more day in Lima.
