Day 98 16.10.15
My last day of the trip… There was so much that I had to get done or better said that I had to purchase. After having thrown out everything I no longer needed or that was empty I had a whole nother kilo to use for extra baggage, leaving me a total of 3 kilos to fill. And boy did I have all the intention of doing so. Since the only thing that I cannot take into Germany with me are potatoes and wine leaves, I went on a right shopping spree, looking for fine frijoles that I had loved so much in Central America (black beans), as well as some special corn species and perhaps some fruit!
So after buying some Ajinomoto (the special condiment for ceviche, and apparently everything else to make it taste good) from the supermarket, we headed out to a proper local market for me to buy the rest of what I wanted to take with me.
We walked about a bit and then headed onwards to a local handicraft market. There is a lot to see and buy there but I managed to hold myself back as much as I could :).
We strolled back to the hotel where I checked out and Em changed rooms. From there on we headed out for lunch at a place I had been recommended to go and eat, being the “best cevicheria in Lima”. I was intrigued and so we headed to La Mar.

It is a very hip place and although there was no place at a table for us to sit at, we just sat at the bar which works a little like a sushi bar.

We were instantly served drinks and snacks and went on to order food.

I had a lovely potato smash roll with either tuna or salmon tartar depending on the roll, a wasabi cream and some dried seaweed on top. Delicious!

As a main I chose some ceviche, because obviously you cannot got to the best cevicheria without trying the ceviche! I chose one with mixed fish and some fried squid cracklings. It was spicey but oh so good!

Meanwhile we got to watch the busy workings behind the bar, mixing one cocktail up after another.

It was fun and we realised that we had chosen the right time to come and eat as after us the cue waiting to be seated grew and grew and grew.

After we were done we headed back to the hotel, I repacked, wrote on my blog and then it was already time for me to head out to the airport.
The traffic on my way to the airport was terrible and I saw my buffer I had calculated dwindle and dwindle.

As I had not checked in yet and printed my boarding pass, I used a little counter where an employee from the airport cruised me through the different options, including my seat assignment. Unfortunately this meant that I couldn’t choose where I was sitting, so I tried to change that when I eventually got to the counter where I could drop off my luggage. This only worked for the Amsterdam – Munich flight, and I was offered an alleyway seat instead of my centre seat, but I thought it would be alright since the seats are all equipped the same way. How wrong was I to be…
I headed towards the gate and waited using some of my time to use the 10 minute free internet at the airport. It was time to board and it was a weird feeling knowing that my trip was now definitely over. I sat down and realised that the KLM seats weren’t as well spaced as the ones I had sat in on my way to Mexico (at least that is what I think…).
We received some dinner and then it was time to decide on my film choices. I grew more and more tired and realised that I had a whole different problem; it is impossible to sleep in the middle seat. There is no way of getting comfortable!
I managed to sleep for a couple of hours, but trust me, being squashed in between my two fellow travellers wasn’t the best experience. Oh well.
We eventually got a breakfast, at a time when European people have lunch. We were also advised to keep our shutters closed at all times, since obviously during our sleeping period the sun was rising and would have otherwise completely shown into the airplane.
LIMA - MUNICH
Day 99 17.10.15
We finally landed and I headed through the big Shiphol airport trying to find my gate. This means passing security to be in transit, where they stopped me and asked what my world adaptor I was carrying in my hand luggage was used for. And then I got to move on, pass through immigration and headed straight to the waiting area in front of my gate. Thank you internet for enabling me to publish my blogs and check Facebook. Hopefully my flight to Munich will be in time and I will get home quickly and safely.
Thank you very much for following my journey and I think as soon as I get home I will write a little summary or a thank you or something of that sort.
Love to you all!
