CUSCO 3

Day 94 12.10.15

Today is a day of pure relaxation. We slept in and decided to slowly start the day.

We headed out strolling through Cusco and doing the last little bits and pieces that we had left for this day.

I bought a poncho I had been eyeing every time I walked passed it. I’m starting to get used to bartering!

We walked on strolling through a handicraft market buying this and that and eventually heading off for a nice brunch at Jacks. This time I was going to dig in, since my tummy was feeling better.

I started off with a lemonade with mint.

While waiting for some friends we shared some hummus with crispy pita bread.

And then, for the grand finale, some amazing French toast with bananas and maple syrup – yum!!

After lunch we headed back to the hotel, where I collected all the things I was going to post home. It is an amazing total of 5 kilos now!

We headed straight to the post office to avoid me buying anything else :).

That worked out well, and at the post office there was a man who completely packaged everything for us, including box, wrapping, addressing etc. just a great service!

After the post office we headed down towards a different handicraft market and strolled around looking at this and that.

After the handicraft market we headed on to a little café waiting until it was time to move on to our massages. A little lemonade and then, yes you heard right, a massage. I think my anticipation was greater than the actual massage.

After having done the hike all our muscles ached and we were looking forward to this loosening up.

Mine was unfortunately not very professional, or at least that is what I think. I think the woman who massaged me needs another course in anatomy for starters and then another course in just the basics of massaging.

I left slightly dumbstruck, not knowing whether I felt better or just the same.

Oh well. We wandered back to the hotel to get ready and pack for the next leg of the journey.

For dinner we decided to try some guinea pig, at least those of us who hadn’t had it before.

We started off with the most amazing bread spread that I have tasted on this trip. Marinated whole! Garlic cloves that were sweetly marinated or pickled. Just delicious!

We had a little pisco mixing class with all the ingredients and ratios given we should all be able to mix one when given the pisco…

I treated myself to a lovely cocktail of a passion fruit daiquiri, which was just delightful.

As we were sharing the guinea pig I decided to take a starter too, which was a light ceviche. (By the way, I have fallen in love with the corn that is in the glass next to the ceviche…)

Then the guinea pig came. To everyone’s surprise or delight the entire thing, head, paws, claws and all.

Unfortunately the actual guinea pig wasn’t as good as the one I had had in Quito, and this the other girls just wanted to try it, the whole plate suddenly moved over to me. I had as much meat as I could, and then gave up, absolutely full.

We headed back to the hotel having enjoyed a wonderful day that we had dearly needed.
