QUITO - LIMA

Day 73 21.09.15

After our elaborate night out, we woke up late and lazy. We had no internet and all there was to do was to curse red wine and then we decided we needed some food to drain some of the alcohol. We were about 10 minutes late but still got some breakfast, that was specifically served to us.

It was alright, but it did what it was supposed to do and we were a bit more lively. We packed, or better said we spread all our belongings out on a bed and then repacked. Here is a picture of the bomb:

As soon as we had packed everything we decided it was time to grease up and headed down to Plaza Foch for lunch. I had the same meal, this time “only” a baked potato though, and really enjoyed the great internet connection that had been missing at the hotel.

After lunch we headed over to a hiking store where I bought some trousers, a carabineer, a mosquito bracelet and a buffy / round scarf. I had some great advice from someone who had already walked up to Machu Picchu.

I realised it was time to leave to catch my taxi to the airport and I said my goodbyes.

I got into the taxi and we drove away from Quito.

As we got closer to the airport, it seemed as if the taxi driver had never been to the airport before. She was going to drop me off at cargo. I haven’t gained that much weight have I?

She managed to find the airport terminal in the end and I entered the airport. I got my bags wrapped and started cueing for the check in counter. After I got there, it took ages, and when I finally got attended to, I was told I was being booked onto another flight. I waited with another 4 facing my fate, and then the first 2 were taken to the other airline. I was then put back on my original flight, to only be then told to quickly rush to the airline counter because I was actually going to go with the other airline. Too much stress, for being at the airport 2,5 hours before the flight… Especially as when we reached the counter the flight had just closed and we were lucky to be still let on.

We raced through immigration and security and made it in time to just fill out our immigration papers and hop on the plane. I got a safety exit seat. Not really my favourite seats, as you cannot have any of your stuff with you while you take off and land, and that’s just such a long period of time when you are flying. At least I got a window seat when I switched with the woman next to me who didn’t feel up to opening the door in case of an emergency.

I finally arrived in Lima and was waiting for my bags to come, which did very quickly.

I grabbed an “economical” taxi, which I shared with 2 other people travelling to Miraflores. I started chatting with one of them, a businessman from Columbia and because our hotels were right next to each other and none of us had anything else to do, we decided to meet up for dinner. He had been to Lima before and so he knew where to go.

I checked in to the most amazing hotel I have ever stayed in. Wow! But more on that on the next blog.

I threw my bags into the room and headed down for dinner.

We walked to the sea, better said to a shopping mall that is just looking out onto the sea, called the Larcomar. Here we went to this amazing restaurant called Mangos, where we had some awesome seafood. An amazing start to my time in Peru, and especially to my time in Lima.

The view from here was beautiful. You could hear the waves crashing, you could see a lit up cross at the end of the bay and it was just a great atmosphere.

Back to the hotel and off to bed, for tomorrow is spa day :) .
