Day 72 20.09.15
Our last day on the Galapagos :( . We woke up early, had a quick breakfast, no pancakes :( , and off we were on the bus to the port. We drove all the way over the island to reach the most northern part where we would board the ferry to Baltra. It started to rain on our way there as if to underline the fact the island was sad that we were leaving.
We got onto the ferry and quickly made our way to Baltra. Baltra is an island where the US army used to be stationed in the form of a military base. Now Baltra sports a great eco-friendly airport, with flights to the mainland.
The vegetation here is very grim, and looks more like the savannah.
We checked in, and to only thing I don’t like about this airport, is that it made me put my hiking boots that were securely fastened to my bag on the outside with cable ties, inside of my bag. Of course that was nearly impossible but with a little trick I managed. Pff… Apart from that everything went smoothly and I thoroughly enjoyed some nachos and cheese at the airport while waiting for boarding. (Yes this was technically a brunch…)
We took one last picture on land and were off in the airplane.
We took one last picture from the airplane and off into the clouds we were.
Here again we played the same games – Who wants to be a millionaire? Only this time actually winning the 1 million dollars!!! We were so stoked and should have gotten some free champagne or something with all this money :) .
We arrived in Guayaquil, said bye to our local Galapagos guide who was leaving us here and were back in the air quickly. This meant that we also landed approximately half an hour earlier than expected. This meant that no one was at the airport to pick us up. They arrived eventually and everything went as planned. Our group split up into those wanting to see the equator line, and those who had either already seen it or just didn’t want to go.
So I headed back, we had a little feedback session and then I was eager for some lunch.
It was about 16:00 by now, but when the stomach is rumbling, it is rumbling.
I was taken down to the Plaza Foch by one of the representatives, and hopped into a restaurant that provided my with some chicken wings and some baked potatoes. After I had ordered our main guide came into the restaurant with his daughter. They asked if they could accompany me and I sure as hell don’t say no to not eating alone.
It was a bit awkward with all this food in front of me and the local representative just eating a salad with some grilled chicken, but you guys know me – I like my food. :)
It started raining so after lunch I was happy to get a drive back to the hotel.
I was hoping to get some time on the internet in, but unfortunately the internet was hopeless (it had been so good the first time we had been here!!!)
The other group came back and we headed out for dinner. Well, I was more looking for drinks after my heavy lunch,
We went to the same plaza – plaza foch, and headed into a bar where the others had dinner and I enjoyed some Mojitos of our 5 mojitos for a special price deal. We had two rounds of that and then decided to go to another place for a drink.
We met our guide (the one with the daughter) and went to a nearby bar.
I had the most amazing passion fruit daiquiris, and the best of it all, it was a 2 for 1 deal! Yey!
Everywhere we went latin music was playing so I was getting really eager to get onto a dance floor.
Unfortunately the others didn’t feel the same way, and so we ended up heading back to the hotel.
It was around 22:00 and that is the time when on Sundays the bars close and no longer serve alcohol. We had to make due with some red wine from the hotel.
It was getting late and I don’t do well with red wine so I was off to bed. It was a lovely way to spend the last couple of hours with the others though (even though I would be seeing them the next day too :) ).
