SAN JOSE

Day 46 25.08.15

We woke up knowing that today was the travel day for so many of the former group, going all the way back home. We got dressed and ready for breakfast and even enjoyed a free breakfast.

The day and night before, there was a severe lack of hot water. No one had a proper shower that day and so the hotel apologised by giving everyone a free breakfast the next day. Better so, because had the problem continued, some of us would have walked out so find a different hotel.

We said goodbye to the majority of our old group and headed towards the National Theatre. It is quite a pompous building, but very similar to others constructed during this era (I think from the 1700s).

We sat down in our chairs (pff. The guys didn’t want to go first row – thank god cause otherwise I would have jumped up and started dancing…) and just glanced around at the decorations in the theatre and awaited what was to come.

The band playing Calypso tunes was grand! As soon as the first beats of music started off, I felt like I was in the Caribbean, either Cay Caulker or Roatan, the waves crashing into the shore, and just feeling like I was back enjoying a drink and watching the sunset. It is amazing what music can create and what feelings it can evoke!

The concert was unfortunately only 45 minutes long but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and so did my two fellow companions.

We walked around town to find a sushi restaurant and unfortunately got lost a little bit. When reading the google maps trying to find the sushi place, I had somehow not figured out that google maps showed me the map 180° different to where I had imagined places to be. Oh well, this little excursion meant we got to see a little more San Jose and even lead us through a little market. Here the life was bustling and the little market stalls offered everything from meat to cheese to vitamin pills and different household objects.

Eventually after asking for the right directions in a hostel we headed towards the sushi restaurant (as I was desperately craving sushi!!).

After walking and walking and walking, passing different impressive colonial houses that were probably some sort of Governmental basis, as well as the Jade museum and the National Museum, we arrived at the sushi place.

Oh my God! The sushi was amazing! :) :) I had some normal Gyoza, as well as inside out rolls and two Temakis. Heaven. It was so expensive (nearly European prices) but I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I headed back to the hotel to get some blogging in, and later on we all met our new group members and our new tour leader.

This time it was a very very long meeting and it tired us all. Unfortunately we didn’t really have the time to get to know everyone, as we had experienced with our previous tour guides. We headed out for dinner at a local place that was very basic, but still lovely, with great service with the lovely Latino attitude. A local musician even serenaded me!

Good fun! I ordered a black soup – a soup made from refried beans, with egg and a bit of scallions. It was really good!

We got to know each other a little and then headed home. However the night was not over yet. I went out dancing with our guide, a guy from reception and another guy working at the hotel. I was so keen to get a little more of salsa, bachata and the other Latin dances in before I would leave to the Caribbean and Pacific surfing spots, where all you hear is mainly reggae and reggaeton.

It was a fun night, and ended in a long karaoke session from the guys I come to the “club” with.
