CAYE CAULKER 2

Day 20 30.07.15

Today was a really relaxing day. After a long lie in, licking our sunburnt wounds and finally getting dressed, we headed out for breakfast. We went to the same place and this time I got some eggs. Not quite what I had expected but it was filling and exactly what I needed with a slight hangover. Not really a hangover, but more a lack of energy to get going again. As the Belizean dollar and the American Dollar are at a fixed flatrate of 2 Belizean dollars to 1 US dollar, receiving change can be really funny at times, when you get back a mixture of both currencies.

We took a stroll along the beach to find a place where we could go windsurfing, but these were a bit pricey for my liking and I decided a quiet day would do me good.

So instead I went and hat a hot stone massage. A perfect way to relax and wind down after some busy couple of weeks.

I found a little shop called Laca Laca Toucan, which sell the cutest beach wear, including a tank top saying “I can’t Belize it”, which I instantly had to purchase, as well as a nice sarong and another top. What can I say - I haven’t been shopping in a while :).

I continued my relaxed day on the porch of my hotel room and caught up with some blog writing.

As people gradually came back to the hotel, we decided to head out to maybe post some postcards (ha ha ha. The postal office closes at 4:30pm and it was definitely later… Will have to do that tomorrow before our trip!), or just take a bit of stroll around, maybe finding some souvenirs for back home.

As I hadn’t had lunch yet, I was kind of hungry.. We came to the conclusion that to solve this issue we were going to get a little snack. What better place then to get some Chinese – pork dumplings to be exact to have as take away at the beach. Perrrrrffffeeeccct. Afterwards we saw some of our group coming back from the split, slightly intoxicated on their way back to the hotel for a quick shower. We thought that it must be nice where they came from and so also headed towards the split for one drink before the nightly meeting. Again, it was really nice there and we got back to the hotel definitely Mexican time, no longer than 10 minutes late. (Or should I call it Belizean time now??). After the meeting we knew that we needed to indulge in the only sensible food on the island – lobster. And so we did.

We ordered a large large lobster and it was oh so good. And so cheep too. My entire meal cost only 35 Belizean dollars. I had great sides, a drink and everything with that.

The food at La Cabana is made by the famous Jolly Rancher, who used to have a cart by the road and now cooks his lobster for the restaurant.

Definitely worth going to whenever you are around in Caye Caulker!
