PUEBLA 2

Day 5 15.07.15

Naturally, after such a big night, the reality of things kicks in the next morning and it is urgent time for a hangover breakfast. Luckily enough, the Mexican food works wonders! There is nothing eggs a la Mexicana wont fix. A bit of chilli, a bit of refried beans (frijoles), some tomatoes and onions and of course scrambled egg. Topped with a great juice and you are ready to go. Ready we were!

Since the day before there had only been time to try on one quinceanera dress, we came back to celebrate a second 15th birthday. Again we had such a blast and the girls in the store were absolutely fabulous, really enjoying themselves and asking us loads of questions about our travels and trying to learn some English words from us. For any girl travelling to Mexico, I highly highly recommend trying on one of these dresses, it makes you feel like a real princess, and if you are not going to be having a proper quinceanera, this will help over the pain :) .

Again tight for time we hopped in a taxi and headed off to the closest bus station. It was time for our trip from Puebla to Oaxaca. We all must have looked quite funny, a large group of people with even more luggage, arranging themselves in a little circle around the bus stop chairs, and every once in a while someone rushes to a different shop to buy a little snack or quickly heads to the bathroom. I decided to make my luggage bus proof.

Since I am carrying so much stuff around that is only attached to my backpack, such as my shoes, my sleeping bag and my camping mat, throwing this ensemble into the trunk of the bus most likely means that only half of it will be coming back out again. Therefore, before my travels I bought a plastic bag, in which I can fit my entire backpack as well as the sleeping bag and camping mat, close it off with some cable ties and am ready for the bag to go into the compartment and me getting it out the same way in all its entity. It’s quite a sight me looking like Father Christmas dragging this long white sack through a bus station, but I’m glad I did. The only thing that is absolutely vital for this operation to work, is to NOT forget your Swiss army knife to open the cable tie of this plastic bag inside the big backpack, preferably right at the bottom as well… :) Thank god for toenail clippers from a travel companion!

The bus we were travelling on was quite comfortable. Its just about 4,5 hours to Oaxaca depending on the traffic, but the bus we took was a nice one, with reclinable seats and even offering films to watch, just like any normal bus you would find anywhere in Europe with which you can go travelling. After several days of extremely good weather, Oaxaca was the first stop on our tour to greet us with rain. Quite a large amount as well! So we all saddled up our luggage and headed off to our hotel, which was quite close to the station, perhaps seeming a little further when you are waddling through rain. Once there we quickly dried off and, since hungry, headed out for a nice meal in Oaxaca. Here they had all natural foods, loads of vegetables and even Mexican cuisine that didn’t taste like the other meals we have had – somehow healthier… We were all very tired and decided for an early night that night.
